Press Release

Watch for School Supplies Being Assembled to help 4,400 Valley Students in an event called: CU Back at School

Yakima, Washington (August 7, 2008) – This major event sponsored by Yakima County Credit Unions consists of Calcoe Federal Credit Union, State Highway District 5 Credit Union, Yakima Valley Credit Union, Catholic Credit Union, Central Washington Federal Credit Union, Lower Valley Credit Union, Washington State Employees Credit Union, and HAPO Community Credit Union.

2008 is the 17th academic school year that local area credit unions have pooled funds to purchase school supplies for valley students that may otherwise have a difficult time obtaining their start up school supplies.

Beginning in 1992, Yakima County Credit Unions purchased various school supplies to fill 1,000 folders and donated them to Yakima and Sunnyside School Districts. In 2005 the program became bigger and better. Yakima County Credit Unions were the recipients of a grant from the Washington Credit Union Foundation which allowed the assembly of an additional 3,000 folders with items such as paper, pencils, crayons, erasers, glue sticks and rulers. We are fortunate enough this year to use pooled funds from the credit unions to assemble 4,400 folders for local area school districts.

You are invited to attend the folder assembly party which will be held Thursday, August 21, 2008 from 7:30am -11:00am at Yakima Valley Credit Union’s Administration Office located at 501 S. 5th Ave – Yakima.

After assembly supplies will be donated to the following school districts: Granger, Mabton, Mt. Adams, Sunnyside, Toppenish, Wapato, Yakima, Union Gap, Grandview and Highland.

Delivery of School Supplies will begin the following week to the above listed school districts. We will notify you with various dates and times in the event you would like to see delivery to these school districts.
