Buying a new car can be more affordable than ever!
There are many ways that you can make a new car purchase more affordable. Here are just a few:
- A lower interest rate – YVCU members, with Checking Rewards and Auto Pay, receive a half of a percent reduction in their annual percentage rate. A lower rate means less interest to pay and possibly lower payments, depending on the term you choose.
- Insurance – Check with your insurance company before making the purchase to find out which new vehicle models are the least expensive to insure. Test-drive those vehicles first to see if they might work for your lifestyle.
- The type of car – Considering how much you will drive, where you will drive, and how many passengers you will take are important factors in choosing which car you will buy. Fuel efficient vehicles can stretch your budget and help the environment as well.
- Additional coverage – YVCU offers Mechanical Breakdown Coverage; Gap Insurance; and Payment Protection at lower rates than you might find elsewhere. When you’re ready to get your loan, a loan representative can give you a variety of options to consider.
- Know your facts – Visit the following Web sites for more helpful information before you buy: www.safercar.gov, www.nhtsa.gov, www.fueleconomy.gov.

Shop Safely Online
Shopping online can save time and minimize stress, but know a few simple rules before you purchase online.
- Only buy from familiar companies. Confirm the seller's contact information in case you have questions or problems in the future. Know exactly what you're buying. Carefully read the product description. Remember--if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
- Protect your privacy. Read and understand the company's online privacy policy and keep any personal information, passwords, or PINs (personal identification numbers) private. Look for these signals indicating that you have entered a secure Web page:
- A screen notice that says you're visiting a secure site
- A closed lock or unbroken key in the bottom corner of your screen
- The first letters of the Internet address you are viewing change from "http" to "https"
- Pay safely. After you review all terms of the sale, such as cost for shipping, delivery date, and return policy, you are ready to buy. Credit or charge card payments offer consumers the most protection. Finally, print all transaction records and any other useful information pertaining to your purchase.
Although online shopping allows you to simplify your shopping with just a few mouse clicks, remember to practice safe browsing as well.
